The GMC Sierra 1500 SLT earned top Honors in the Texas Truck Showdown Towing Championship in a head-to head capability test conducted by editors from Cars.com, PickupTrucks.com.

Overview:
Each vehicle entered into the competition had to include the model's max towing package features, be a 2WD and have a package price close to $51,000.

GMC's Entry:
2016 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT with 6.2L V-8 and available Max trailering Package (NHT).

The Competition
-Ford F150 Lariat with the 3.5L V-6 Ecoboost
-Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn with the 5.7L V-8
- Toyota Tundra 1794 Edition with the 5.7L V-8

The Tests
Every competitor was:
- Track-tested (Empty and with 1750lbs. of payload) for accelerations and braking.
-Taken on a 170 mile f mileage journey (Empty and then towing a 10,100 lb., 18 foot load trail Flatbed trailer).

-Put through the paces at EngineLogics on the Mustang MD250 chassis dyno
-Driven back and forth in multiple back-to-back settings.
-Sound-tested at idle and at 60 mph in top gear with the windows rolled up and the air conditioning off.

How the Sierra 1500 Performed
The Sierra 1500 SLT impressed the judges with its exceptional capability, forward thinking technology features and refined interior quality. it turned in winning scores for:
-Acceleration (Empty and loaded)
-Horsepower
-Fuel Economy (Empty and loaded)
-Braking Distance (loaded)
-Gross vehicle weight rating
-Combined weight rating
-Maximum rated towing
-Calculated maximum towing
